University College Birmingham, The University of Birmingham and Newman University are working in partnership to develop and implement an Office for Students project. ‘Transformation West Midlands’ identifies ways of supporting students and recent graduates, in their transition from university into highly skilled employment. The project is focused on improving employability prospects of those who are locally domiciled and are seeking employment in their home region.

Hired@UCB provides careers, employability and placement services to our students. We currently have a vacancy for a Progression Coach to deliver careers coaching, information, advice and guidance to students and recent graduates. They will focus on building employability and career management skills to deliver positive graduate outcomes.  The project focusses on those who have chosen to study one of the three universities and wish to remain local when starting their career. Many will come from areas of disadvantage and/or areas of low participation in higher education. In addition, more than half will have black or minority ethnic heritage.

The role of the Progression Coach is to motivate this cohort and to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to move into positive employment outcomes or further study. As well as to build, manage and maintain effective relationships with employers, training providers and support agencies to deliver positive outcomes.

The successful candidate will have experience of caseload management, alongside a demonstrated understanding of supporting students in the context of employment and/or further study. They will also have the ability to engage the project population to build rapport and achieve the project targets, as well as excellent communication and organisation skills, the ability to work with a diverse range of individuals, and proficiency in administration and the use of IT.
